The master's degree in Biochemistry International at Heinrich Heine University builds on a previous, successful, 4-year bachelor's degree in biochemistry. The course is research-oriented with an emphasis on the characterization and application of enzymes.
The course leads to a Master of Science (MSc) degree in two semesters. In the first semester, elective modules are chosen, which can be supplemented by a research internship. The second semester is intended for the master's thesis.
The course is admission-free and requires “proof of special aptitude” (application and aptitude assessment take place directly at Heinrich Heine University). Good examinations from a 4-year bachelor's degree and either sufficient knowledge of German or English are required. It is possible to start studies in the summer and winter semesters.
Graduates have the knowledge and ability to independently recognize and solve complex problems at the current interfaces between chemistry and biology. They are able to demonstrate their scientific qualifications in a doctorate and are suitable to take on management tasks in medical-pharmaceutical research, biotechnology and the food industry as well as at universities, research institutes or in public administration.
