The curriculum - which, in terms of the theoretical knowledge imparted, goes far beyond what the specialist lawyer regulations (§ 14b FAO) require for the award of the title "specialist lawyer for medical law" - includes, among other things, medical liability, medical criminal law, inpatient care, medical professional law and statutory health insurance law PKV.
The prerequisite for admission to the advanced training course in medical law is a first state examination in law with at least the final grade “satisfactory”. Other domestic and foreign degrees are recognized as long as there is no significant difference to the achievements to be achieved in the first state legal examination.
Applicants with the first state examination in law who do not meet the above requirements can nonetheless be admitted if they have been awarded the doctoral degree of law with at least the grade "cum laude", or if they have passed the second state examination in law at least have completed the grade “satisfactory”.
Furthermore, previous professional experience is required.
The course is subject to a fee (€ 3,000 per semester). For people with a low income (e.g. trainee lawyers) a reduced fee of € 2,000 per semester applies.
For applications for the winter semester that are received by June 30th, a one-time early bird discount of € 500 is granted. For those received by July 31, a discount of € 250 will be granted.
For applications for the summer semester that are received by December 31, a one-time early bird discount of € 500 is granted. For those received by January 31, a discount of € 250 will be granted.
The events are held in the form of weekly lectures, which are usually to take place on Friday evenings and on Saturdays in order to enable professionals to participate.
Modules A to D have a minimum duration of approx. 5 hours per week. The student must complete each module in order to successfully complete the course. In addition, a four-week internship in an area of ??medical law (Module P) must be completed. Law firms with a focus on medical law, legal departments of pharmaceutical companies, health ministries or medical associations come into consideration.
If the course is started in the summer semester, students start with modules C and D, followed by A and B. The course “Introduction to Medical Basics” is also offered at the beginning of the summer semester.
