In the biochemistry course, the subjects biology and chemistry are combined in order to understand the molecular processes of life.
Building on the basics of mathematics, physics and especially biology and chemistry, there is a specialization in biochemistry and enzyme technology. Elective courses and the independent, research-oriented bachelor thesis offer the opportunity for individual supplementation and qualification. The extensive offer ranges from natural product synthesis to molecular medicine.
The “Biochemistry” bachelor's degree program leads to the professional qualification Bachelor of Science (BSc) in 6 semesters. Lectures, seminars and laboratory internships are grouped into modules. The individual profiling through elective modules and bachelor thesis takes place in the 5th and 6th semester.
Students who are particularly interested can apply for the 8-semester course variant PLUS / International with an integrated stay abroad. The 5th and 6th semesters are completed at a partner university. The research-oriented specialization phase of the 7th and 8th semester concludes the course.
Admission requirements for the bachelor's degree in biochemistry are general university entrance qualification (Abitur) and good knowledge of German (DSH-2). The beginning of the course (1st semester) is always the winter semester. Admission is subject to a local local numerus clausus (admission restricted). The application for a study place is made online using the DoSV procedure . Applicants for higher semesters need to have their academic achievements recognized by the Biochemistry Examination Board.
Graduates have the substantive and methodological tools to investigate life science issues at the molecular level. Most graduates opt for in-depth training in a master’s degree. The offer is very diverse and includes biochemistry, for example, biology, chemistry, biotechnology, toxicology and biomedicine. For a professional activity, the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology or quality control or quality management in the food industry come into question.
