Program Structure

A total of 180 credit points (CP) must be demonstrated in the bachelor's degree in teaching at primary schools.

The course is divided into the following components:

  • two subjects of 45 credit points each,
  • one specialization subject to 50 credit points,
  • the study area teacher training related vocational science for elementary schools (LBW-GS) with 30 credit points,
  • as well as the bachelor thesis with 10 credit points.

The subjects German and mathematics are generally compulsory. It is only possible to replace one of these two subjects with the choice of special education as a major. This results in the following 19 subject combinations:

Research methods in the context of inclusion (supplementary module) **

** The module "Research Methods in the Context of Inclusion" is offered as part of the compulsory course component of Teacher Training-Related Vocational Studies (LBW).

In the course of primary school education, at the end of the course, the exemplary deepening and differentiation of a selected field of study takes place through the independent scientific development of a self-selected problem (Bachelor thesis) within the framework of one of the three chosen subjects. When choosing the subjects special education, art (UdK) or music (UdK), the bachelor thesis must be written in these subjects.

The course regulations regulate the structure and process of the course. It contains detailed descriptions of the content and qualification goals of each individual module and an exemplary course plan. The examination regulations define the type and requirements of the module examinations. In the regulations, the credit points (CP) for each module or event as well as the workload in hours for the entire course are specified.

Career Prospects

Bachelor graduates have scientific knowledge and practical skills that qualify them for a job or a postgraduate course. In the state of Berlin, bachelor graduates can only gain access to teaching positions at public primary schools with a relevant master’s degree (Master of Education) related to teaching.

In addition to teaching at schools, the bachelor's degree program enables activities in school and extracurricular educational fields such as the teaching material industry, in school book publishers, in specialist magazines, in educational administration as well as at adult education centers and extracurricular educational institutions.

A master’s degree and, if applicable, a doctorate are prerequisites for managerial positions or employment in research and teaching.
