Overview

The “Master's degree with a focus on clinical psychology and psychotherapy” is a research and application-oriented degree that qualifies for the state license to practice psychotherapy. The course deepens the knowledge in clinical psychology and psychotherapy, in particular the students learn the scientifically sound application of psychotherapeutic competencies of different procedures and methods. The course content explicitly includes ecological, social, cultural and institutional conditions as well as the influence of gender roles.

A well-founded training in methods and diagnostics is guaranteed. The imparting of general methodological skills is supplemented by subject-specific method events on health care and intervention research and on specific diagnostic procedures and methods, as well as by individualized advice on the planning and implementation of the master's thesis.

The content of the course is based on the licensing regulations for psychotherapists (further information here ). Students can choose from different specializations in the basic psychological subjects. Further options exist between thematically different seminars in clinical psychology and psychotherapy.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

It contains detailed descriptions of the content and qualification objectives of each individual module and an exemplary course plan and defines the type and requirements of the examination performance of the modules and the master’s examination. In the regulations, the credit points (CP) for each module or event as well as the workload in hours for the entire course are given. In the master’s degree course, a total of 120 credit points (CP) including the master’s thesis worth 30 CP must be proven.

Modules of the course:

- Module: Special disorders and procedural theory of psychotherapy (11 CP),

- Module: Job qualifying activity II (15 CP),

- Module: Multivariate statistical analysis methods for psychotherapists (5 CP),

- Module: Evaluation Research in Psychotherapy (5 CP),

- Module: Scientific specialization (10 CP),

- Module: In-depth psychological diagnostics and assessment (10 CP),

- Module: Professional qualification III - outpatient part and documentation, evaluation and organization of psychotherapeutic treatments (7 CP),

- Module: Professional qualification III - stationary part and self-reflection (17 CP),

- Module: Research-Oriented Internship II - Psychotherapy Research (5 CP) and

- Module: Applied Psychotherapy (5 CP).

- Module: Master's thesis (30 CP)

There are content-related options for the seminar and practical components of the modules.

The master's thesis should show that the students are able to independently work on and present a research task using scientific methods. After successfully completing the study program, the university degree Master of Science (M.Sc.) is awarded

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be admitted to the master’s degree, applicants must demonstrate the following requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in psychology or an equivalent foreign degree that was acquired at a university or an equivalent college and which includes at least six semesters of psychology studies. This university course must include all of the content required by the licensing regulations for psychotherapists (PsychThApprO) for a bachelor’s degree (cf. §§ 12-15 PsychThApprO as well as Appendix 1 to PsychThApprO) and be recognized by the competent state authority (e.g. in the state of Berlin by the State Office for Health and Social Affairs Berlin) Evidence is provided using the form provided in the application process (Annex 3 of the access statutes) as well as the corresponding module handbook or the corresponding module descriptions.

- If the bachelor's degree is not yet available at the time of application, it must be proven that at least 120 LP are available in completed modules (proof of transcript of records) and that the bachelor thesis has either been registered or has already been submitted (proof of registered module in transcript of Records or registration certificate issued by the examination office). Proof of language proficiency in the scope of level B 2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??(GER) for applicants who did not obtain their university degree at an educational establishment in which English is the language of instruction. Proof of language proficiency can be proven through various English tests as well as 6 years of English lessons at school.

The forms provided in the application process with the information on the admission requirements and selection points - the self-assessment form (Appendix 2) and the confirmation from the university (Appendix 3) - are a necessary part of the application and must be completed in full.

Applicants who have completed their degree at a foreign university or equivalent institution must provide evidence of German language skills at level C1. This can be done by passing the German language test for university admission (DSH) or by providing evidence of an equivalent level of knowledge in accordance with the regulations for the German language test for university admission of foreign applicants to the Free University of Berlin.\

CAREER PROSPCETS

Graduates have in-depth scientific knowledge and advanced professional skills.

Graduates have the prerequisites for admission to the state "Approbation Examination Psychotherapy", which they can take after successfully completing the master's degree. For admission to the license to practice medicine examination, it is necessary that the previous Bachelor's degree complies with the regulations of the license to practice medicine regulations for psychotherapists.

After completing the license to practice medicine examination, you will be granted license to practice medicine as a psychotherapist. For an activity in this area and the recognition under social law, further training is required, which takes place after the degree. As part of this further training, an age range (children and adolescents or adults) and a psychotherapy procedure are also determined.

The master’s program also provides graduates with broad qualifications for activities in research, teaching and practice in psychotherapy and clinical-psychological counseling, prevention and health promotion, psychosocial and development-oriented intervention as well as disease management and rehabilitation. The course also qualifies you for an academic career in the psychological field.
