Overview

The students are taught the theoretical and practical basics of modern biochemical research. The scope of the selectable focus areas of the course includes the fields of structural biochemistry, molecular biology and molecular biomedicine. Model systems are used here, which, in addition to the comprehensive imparting of biochemical specialist knowledge, also enable an in-depth focus on current research fields.

 

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The study regulations and the examination regulations contain more information on the structure of the study and the degree.

The modules are to be completed in the following four study areas: Basics, Choice, Methods and Research.

The master's thesis should show that the students are able to independently work on and present a research task using scientific methods. After successfully completing the study program, the university degree Master of Science (M.Sc.) is awarded.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be admitted to the master’s degree, applicants must demonstrate the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in biochemistry or other equivalent university degree that corresponds to the type and scope of the different subject areas of the bachelor's degree in biochemistry at Freie Universität Berlin.

Applicants whose mother tongue is not German and who have completed their degree at a foreign university or equivalent institution must have sufficient knowledge of German (DSH2) or English (IELTS 5.0; TOEFL: Paper 500 or Computer 170 or Internet 80) evidence that is required for an understanding of the courses and the specialist literature.

 

CAREER PROSPECTS

Due to the flexible combination of modules with early specialization, the students have a strong independence and personal responsibility in scientific research. This enables them to occupy research and practice-related professional fields in the field of life sciences.
