Overview

After successful admission, the participants go through a four-semester course which ends with a Master of Education. This qualification entitles you to enter the preparatory service in the state of Berlin. In the two years of the Q-Masters, subject didactics should be studied in the first and second subject, specialist sciences in the second subject, educational science components and DaZ (German as a second language). Participation in the practical semester is planned for the third semester.

A novelty is the compulsory study advice set out in the study regulations before the beginning of the lecture period in the first semester and at the end of the second semester Needs is adapted. The courses offered can be selected from the existing modules of the teaching degree as well as the teaching degree of the Free University of Berlin. However, a clear focus is on a selection from the master's modules. The practical semester then takes place together with the regular student teachers.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A total of 120 credit points (CP) must be demonstrated in the master’s course. The master’s course is divided into:

  • the technical studies in subject 2 (35 CP),
  • didactic studies in subject 1 and subject 2 (total of 44 CP),
  • educational studies (21 CP including learning research project in the practical semester),
  • the module “German as a Second Language / Language Education” (5 CP) and
  • the master's thesis in subject 2 (15 CP).

The educational science modules listed in the table are completed once, regardless of the first and second subject.

The structure and course of the course are regulated by the course regulations. It contains detailed descriptions of the content and qualification goals of each individual module and an exemplary course plan. The examination regulations define the type and requirements of the examination performances of the modules and the master’s examination. In the regulations, the credit points (LP) for each module or each event as well as the workload in hours for the entire course are specified.

The master's thesis is usually completed in the second subject and should show that the students are able to independently work on and present a research task using scientific methods. After successfully completing the study program, the university degree Master of Education (M.Ed.) is awarded.
