Overview

In this master’s course, students can expand and deepen the skills acquired in their bachelor’s degree in specialist science, language acquisition, specialist didactics and educational science with a clearly job-related focus.

The students acquire central oral and written skills in the Italian language for school and teaching, deal with literature and media at a high academic level and improve their ability to apply methods of modern linguistics to various texts and discourses. They acquire in-depth knowledge and skills in educational sciences and subject didactics that allow them to analyze, plan and evaluate foreign language teaching / learning processes. In the teaching internship, they gain their first action-oriented experience in the professional field and thereby expand their ability to systematically reflect on foreign language teaching.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The teaching master’s course with subject 1 or 2 Italian is studied with subject 2 or 1, whereby the teaching-related subject combination is specified by the previous bachelor’s degree.

The modules in the table below are expanded by modules from the other subject. The educational science modules listed in the table are completed once, regardless of the core subject and the range of modules.

The structure and course of the course are regulated by the course and examination regulations. It contains detailed descriptions of the content and qualification goals of each individual module and an exemplary course plan. It also defines the type and requirements of the examination performance of the modules and the master’s examination. In the regulations, the credit points (CP) for each module or event as well as the workload in hours for the entire course are specified.

The master's thesis can be completed in the specialist field, in educational science or in the subject didactics of subject 1 or 2 and should show that the students are able to independently work on and present a research task using scientific methods. After successfully completing the study program, the university degree Master of Education (M.Ed.) is awarded.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be admitted to the master’s degree in teaching, applicants must demonstrate the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree related to this master’s degree with an integrative study of two subjects and professional teaching related to teaching (educational science and subject didactics), or an equivalent other university degree.

The teacher training-related subject combination from the previous Bachelor's degree must be retained. The core subject of the bachelor's degree is studied as subject 1, the modules of the bachelor's degree as subject 2.

Proof of German language skills must be provided for applicants who have completed their degree at a foreign university or equivalent institution . This can be done by passing the German language test for university admission (DSH) or by providing evidence of an equivalent level of knowledge in accordance with the regulations for the German language test for university admission of foreign applicants to the Free University of Berlin.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Graduates have in-depth scientific knowledge and advanced professional skills.

A successfully completed three-year bachelor's degree and a subsequent two-year master's degree with (up to) two-year preparatory service lead to the office of the student council.

In addition to teaching at schools, activities in various professional fields such as science (e.g. doctorate in subject didactics), library and publishing, press and other media, adult education, cultural management and mediation as well as other foreign language activities, organization and communication management, public relations are in the Tourism industry or in work areas of national and international institutions possible.

In addition, the other subject can also open up further opportunities with regard to the occupational profile and career opportunities.
