Overview

Overview

Theater studies deals with the history, aesthetics and theory of theater or with theatrical forms and their conditions of origin and effect. Since various arts, including above all literature, painting, dance and music, as well as other media and different cultural systems, are involved in the diversity of these forms, the objects mentioned can only be recorded in an interdisciplinary manner.

At the Institute for Theater Studies at the Free University of Berlin, the three areas of contemporary theater, theater history as well as theory and aesthetics are examined. They are researched from a historical, analytical, theoretical, aesthetic and comparative perspective. There is no artistic or technical training.

The 60 CP module offer does not cover the entire subject of the course (see course structure).
