Overview

The subject of the Korean Studies module is modern Korea, taking its historical development into account. Korean education takes a special place. In the course of language acquisition, basic knowledge of the contemporary Korean language in the four basic skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) and knowledge of the high-level Korean language are acquired. The students acquire basic vocabulary, acquire introductory knowledge of the Chinese characters (Hanja), acquire skills in translating Korean specialist texts and practice dealing with Korean-language sources. As part of the Korean studies modules, students gain knowledge of the history of Korea from its beginnings to the present. an overview of the economy and the political system of North and South Korea as well as in-depth insights into the culture of Korea. You will be able to place Korea in the East Asian context on the basis of this knowledge. The students are introduced to general questions from cultural and literary studies or political and economic science and learn to apply them to the research topic Korea.

The 30 CP module offering does not cover the entire subject of the course (see course structure).

Program Structure

As a 60 CP module offer, Korean studies are combined with a 90 CP core subject. As a 30 CP module offer, Korean studies are combined with a suitable 120 CP core subject  or a 90 CP core subject and a further 30 CP module offer.

The course regulations regulate the structure and process of the course. It contains detailed descriptions of the content and qualification goals of each individual module and an exemplary course plan. The examination regulations define the type and requirements of the module examination. In the regulations, the credit points (CP) for each module or event as well as the workload in hours for the entire course are specified.
