Overview

Economic success in Europe is increasingly based on high-tech products. In particular, the function of the surface (protection, dirt absorption, cleanability, feel, sliding properties) and its appearance - the appearance - are becoming more and more important.

With the help of innovative materials, e.g. based on nanoparticles, it is now possible to create layers with considerable added value or additional functions, e.g. self-healing, self-cleaning or combination layers as a replacement for many individual layers.

The course combines the two fields of knowledge materials and their properties and interface and surface technology. The know-how of lacquer technology, which ranges from the chemistry and physics of colloids (size range 1nm to 1 µm - modern “nanotechnology” today) and interfaces to process engineering, is combined with the knowledge of material technology as well as inorganic and metallic layers to be able to develop new materials, composite materials and entire components with tailor-made surface properties.
In addition to specialist knowledge, you will learn interdisciplinary working methods, scientific thinking and an understanding of complex relationships. In ultra-modern, well-equipped laboratories, you will be imparted the necessary practical knowledge and the theory applied to practical issues.

Leadership skills

Knowledge of product and innovation management and corporate management will prepare you for management positions. The interdisciplinary nature of the course also enables you to work as a link in an interdisciplinary team in which business economists, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, physicists, designers, etc. work together to develop new products.
