Overview

The master's degree in electrical engineering leading to a Master of Science degree is a three-semester course that builds on the bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. It enables students to do independent scientific work in the field of electrical engineering.

Based on practice-oriented study profiles, the master’s degree in electrical engineering enables a scientifically sound expansion of basic knowledge as well as specialist specialization.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The course has a modular structure, the modules and courses are assessed according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). This facilitates the international student exchange. The course provides for a total of 90 ECTS points.

In accordance with the objectives of the master’s degree in electrical engineering, knowledge is imparted in stages in four blocks, each of which comprises several modules:

  • Basics (three compulsory modules)
  • Specialized specialization through three modules in either automation technology, electrical power engineering or optical technologies
  • three further electives
  • One module each for a research seminar and one for project management
  • Master thesis with colloquium

The graduates have qualifications that open up a wide range of occupational opportunities, such as

  • in (electrical) automotive engineering,
  • in medical technology and biotechnology,
  • across the consumer goods industry,
  • in production,
  • in the chemical industry,
  • in the field of public supply and infrastructure,
  • in the field of energy generation, distribution and supply,
  • in environmental protection,
  • in the fields of information and communication technologies
  • and there both in hardware and software.

They are able to make independent scientific contributions in their specialist area and they can familiarize themselves with new subject areas independently. Therefore, they are particularly suitable for activities in research and development departments.

Working in interdisciplinary teams is also an option due to her in-depth, extensive basic knowledge. They are also suitable for management positions within a company and can also fill a position in the higher service of public institutions.

Graduates with very good degrees have good prospects of successfully applying for doctoral positions at technical colleges or universities. The specializations in automation technology, electrical power engineering and optical technologies open up a very broad spectrum of professional fields, not only in the electrical engineering industry.
