Overview

The master's degree in specialist translation prepares you for activities in the following areas:

  • Specialized translation
  • Technical editing
  • Language and translation project management
  • Terminology management
  • Language and translation technology control and support of specialist communication processes
  • Intercultural communication management

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

 

You can study one, two or three languages ??from the foreign languages ??offered, English, French and Spanish. The foreign languages ??chosen are equivalent. In addition, a supplementary language (currently: Dutch) can be taken if there is a sufficient number of interested parties.

You can choose from a wide range of events and set your own focus of study. As part of the course, you will acquire knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:

  • Specialized translation in the fields of technology / natural sciences, information technology, economics, law and / or culture
  • Technical editing
  • Scientific basics of translation and intercultural specialist communication
  • Tools of professional communication technology
  • Machine translation processes
  • Language and translation project management
  • Terminology management

The master's degree in specialist translation has a modular structure. The modules listed below are made up of different courses:

  • Module 01: Scientific basics of specialist translation
  • Module 02: Scientific in-depth knowledge of specialist translation
  • Module 03: Basics of practice and technology
  • Module 04: In-depth practice and technology
  • Module 05: Studium Integrale: Acquisition of specialist knowledge and terminology for specialist text translation
  • Module 06: Internship
  • Module 07: Master thesis with master colloquium
  • Module group: technical documentation
  • Module group: Translation of specialist texts

CAREER PROPSECTS

With the successful completion of the master’s degree in specialist translation, you are prepared for activities in the following professional fields:

  • Intercultural communication management

Your possible professional areas of application are therefore wide-ranging. As a rule, you will be employed as an employee or civil servant in companies, authorities and international organizations or at specialized agencies. Alternatively, you have the option of doing a freelance job.
