Overview

The master’s degree in International Management and Intercultural Communication is particularly interesting for those university graduates who are interested in international economic events in an intercultural comparison and who see their future job in internationally operating companies or institutions.

The master’s course is aimed at graduates of Faculties 03 and 04 of the TH Köln, but also basically at graduates of other courses of study at other universities who have a good knowledge of economics and a very good command of English.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The aim of this master’s degree is to prepare students for tasks in the field of international management in international companies, but also in research. The course takes into account the fact that the professional competence of international management today must also include intercultural competence. The course should therefore primarily develop the students' abilities to be communicative and creative in international management and to find solutions at the interfaces of cultural conditions and management problems through intercultural competence.

The two main focal points of the master’s degree are therefore - as the title suggests - on the one hand on imparting knowledge in international management and marketing and on the other hand in the theory and practice of intercultural communication. The latter is supported by the change of study location and the international composition of the student group. In addition, there is knowledge of social, economic and cultural research as well as international accounting and financial management. During the master’s thesis, the knowledge acquired in the use of electronic research options and the analysis of economic data is ideally applied.

To promote and introduce the topic of intercultural communication, a preparatory two-day workshop "Intercultural Basics" is held at the beginning of the course. This workshop takes place regularly in Bonn, where the students also stay overnight. In addition to the content-related discussion of the topic, this event also serves as a way of getting to know the students for the first time when they start their studies together in Cologne.

CAREER PROSPECTS

The master’s degree usually opens up the possibility of a doctorate and higher service in Germany (if you are employed in the public service). A subsequent doctoral degree is also possible.
