PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

In the first four semesters, students acquire basic skills in business law, business administration, economics and quantitative methods. Furthermore, the students acquire interdisciplinary skills. In the fifth and sixth semesters, students choose two areas of focus from a portfolio of five areas according to their inclinations and interests. You round off your competencies in a differentiated way

In order to effectively convey the wide-ranging specialist skills in the basic course to students, they should follow the proposed structure.
The curriculum of the Bachelor's degree in Business Law (LL. B.) forms an overall system in which students acquire application-oriented, well-founded professional competence. In the first four semesters, students acquire basic business law and business management skills.

  • In the first semester, basic competencies in the areas of law, private business law, public law as well as business administration and economics are established.
  • In the second semester, basic skills follow in the areas of choice of legal form, European law, corporate law, taxes, fundamentals of accounting and quantitative methods.
  • In the third semester there are specializations in civil law (with commercial, family and inheritance law); Competition, antitrust and procedural law; Contract drafting, negotiation techniques, conflict and legal management and basics in the field of external accounting and legal English form the foundation for further studies.
  • In the fourth semester, insolvency and commercial criminal law, international commercial law, specialization in commercial law (especially corporate law) as well as finance and investment management and human resource management and labor law follow, thus rounding off the profile of the students.

To do this, you apply the theoretical knowledge you have learned to practical examples (transfer competence). In addition, the students receive special teaching units for the preparation of a scientific paper and for presenting. They are also repeatedly supervised by academic staff and tutors when preparing presentations and term papers. You can research, read and understand the necessary scientific literature as well as scientifically present and cite it. Afterwards, they are able to present their work results in front of an audience. In addition, they can reflect on themselves, but also evaluate the performance of others. The students therefore have:

  • methodical basic knowledge of the respective subject
  • the ability to create a formally correct scientific work and presentation
  • Self, social and reflective skills
  • Presentation and discussion skills
  • Communication skills

In-depth skills / differentiation

In the fifth and sixth semesters, students choose two areas from the following five areas:

  • Corporate taxation
  • International business law
  • Human resource management and labor law
  • Financial Services Law
  • external accounting

The main subjects each comprise 16 hours per week. These are made up
of 4 modules of 4 hours per week each. For each successfully
completed module, students earn 6 credit ponits. In every major subject there are compulsory modules that have to be taken. In some major subjects, there is the option of taking elective modules in addition to the compulsory modules.

Thesis

The thesis is written in the sixth semester. With the final thesis, the competence for scientific work is finally checked.
Practical, technically detailed and interdisciplinary: there are many current topics for theses. Students apply specialist skills, use the soft skills they have learned and all of this is best applied to a practical example.

Semester abroad

In a semester abroad, students can develop their intercultural and linguistic skills. The students learn to find their way around other socio-economic systems, expand their flexibility and independence. Ideally, you will develop tolerance and openness towards other cultures.

During the semester abroad, you can attend events that are not offered in the curriculum of the degree program or complete courses that convey competencies comparable to those of modules from your degree program. When returning from abroad, these courses can either be recognized as courses from the curriculum (if possible) or noted as additional skills on the certificates.

The Faculty of Economics and Law offers many options for students who would like to spend a semester abroad. The faculty has over 60 partnerships with universities abroad to promote intercultural skills. There are two deadlines for applications (April 15 and November 30).

If students cannot find something suitable from the offer of the partner universities, there is also the opportunity to look for a place at a state-recognized university on their own initiative.

Practical relevance

Theoretical and practical learning outcomes are consistently linked to one another throughout the entire course of business law. The students learn on the basis of structured practical projects. This promotes their responsibility for the learning process. The students appreciate the structural similarity of the learning situation with later professional action situations and consciously perceive their competence acquisition.

Numerous guest lecturers from companies, associations, courts, administration and other legal and business-related organizations give students practical insights into current legal and economic problems. At the same time, you gain a personal impression of decision-makers from different areas of the application of law and business.

Internship semester

Students have the opportunity to improve their skills with regard to the practical application of the knowledge they have acquired during a practical semester. The students who complete such a practical semester switch to a seven-semester Bachelor's degree.

CAREER PROSPECTS

After graduation, students are able to work independently on the basis of scientific knowledge and methods.

Our study objectives correspond to the relevant qualification profile required by
companies for young, self-employed employees for initial specialist and
management tasks who want to further distinguish themselves in the professional environment.
Foreign language skills and social skills such as the ability to work in a team, rhetoric,
presentation skills and intercultural skills round off the professional qualifications of our graduates.

In cooperation with our partner companies from our International Board of Advisors, we regularly check whether the degree program addresses practical requirements.

Depending on the choice of specialization, our graduates find themselves in legal or finance departments, auditing organizations, in HR departments or management consultancies after completing their studies. Entry into international organizations or other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is also possible.
