The students acquire extensive knowledge of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering, which enables them as a graduate to be a well-founded engineer and act responsibly. In particular, they will be able to transfer new results from engineering to industry and commercial production, taking into account business, ecological and safety requirements. You will learn to plan, control and monitor processes as well as to develop and operate plants and equipment.
The mechanical engineering course serves to train engineers who are capable of solving tasks in daily practice using technical and scientific methods and knowledge.
Particular emphasis is placed on the consideration of economic and organizational aspects. The imparting of product-specific knowledge is largely replaced by methodological knowledge, which should lead to the fact that the graduates are able to develop holistic problem solutions independent of the industry. The ability to work in a team is intensively promoted through the project-oriented course.
The first two subject semesters offer modules that lay the foundation for the development of the desired competencies by imparting fundamentals, methods, concepts and theories from mathematics, natural and engineering sciences. Here the students have the opportunity to refresh, deepen or build up their knowledge. As a result, the students are equipped with the necessary "tool kit" to successfully complete their studies right from the start.
Graduates of the third, fourth and fifth semester have the necessary skills to develop and implement machines / products as well as an initial awareness of economic, ecological, legal and social aspects and framework conditions. These aspects are included in the planned project modules or project-based modules.
The project modules take up the content of the basic and core modules and supplement them with technological competencies, personal experience, dedicated practical tasks, content-related impulses and contributions from the expertise of the lecturers as well as from self-conducted literature research. Depending on the conception, this module type implements a project that runs over an entire semester and that the students work on in groups under the guidance / coaching of lecturers and academic staff or tutors.
Graduates of the sixth semester develop their interdisciplinary skills, have entrepreneurial skills and can evaluate technical solutions with regard to impact assessment, ethics and sociology. In addition, graduates implement their skills and competencies in the development of real machines / products as part of a practical phase or in a virtual engineering office.
In the final seventh semester, i.e. in conjunction with the elective project, the study project, the bachelor thesis and the colloquium, there is a compulsory elective module.
The course plans offer a lot of space for personal profiling of the students. Through the elective courses and final projects, graduates can set further accents and preferences in their training in order to prepare themselves specifically for the desired professional environment.
Socially, there is a large and very diverse need for machines in a wide variety of industries - from automated production systems and solutions for medical technology to intelligent household appliances. The digital penetration of our living and working world leads to increasingly complex tasks for engineers in the field of product development. The "Mechanical Engineering" course qualifies students for the development and implementation of machines for the most varied of social needs, taking into account the increasing complexity that can only be mastered through automation and interdisciplinary cooperation.
