Mechatronics is the science and technology of the intelligent linking of the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering / electronics and computer science and is therefore synonymous with modern engineering. The aim of the bachelor's degree in mechatronics is to train developers and designers in the fields of machine, vehicle, plant and device construction with a high level of interdisciplinary competence.
A strong emphasis on project work promotes the key skills of teamwork and communication skills. The projects are planned and selected in an interdisciplinary manner by the lecturers in cooperation with the students. The implementation takes place in small groups. They work independently, but are advised and supported by the teachers. In teams, the students learn to work on and present specific problems from mechatronic development processes holistically and under practical conditions. Graduates with such a qualification profile will take on diverse and interesting tasks and challenges in all areas of product development.
The Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics takes seven semesters to complete. A 12-week practical phase or a semester abroad is part of the course of study. The course has a modular structure; examinations are taken alongside the course after completing the individual modules.
Abitur or advanced technical college entrance qualification or previous training recognized as equivalent and proof of practical work lasting ten weeks (pre-study internship). Evidence must be provided by the beginning of the fourth semester at the latest.
Mechatronics engineers work in all traditional engineering professions. You work primarily in research, development, production, service, sales or marketing. Mechatronics engineers can also be found as professors and lecturers at universities and all types of colleges and schools. They are also often found in management. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that they are technical experts and complement a development or strategy team well. On the other hand, they are excellent project managers because they work in a structured, analytical and solution-oriented manner.
These skills, and because they can summarize processes in a clearly structured and conceptual way, are the reason for the high demand for mechatronics engineers.
An analysis of the professional involvement of the graduates of the Mechatronics course shows that a significant percentage of our former students are employed in the development, planning and control of projects and products.
You will accompany the development of products from the idea through to use by the customer. They coordinate the company departments involved in the company and use the project management experience they have gained during their studies. Your competencies lie in an overview of the technologies and tools used in development. When working close to the customer, they must demonstrate strategic skill and competencies in the marketing area.
