Overview

The course is primarily technically oriented and focuses on the development of intelligent products and services. On the one hand, the basics of mechanical engineering and mechatronics to understand the products themselves are part of the course content. In addition, the fundamentals of business administration and special business administration in the service area can be found in the core curriculum to understand the market requirements.  

In this way, the students are able to participate in the development of product-service systems as project staff and to recognize connections in the project process and the business evaluation of this product class. The interdisciplinary training in electrical engineering and software development enables students to systematically develop and design product-related services closely related to technical (mechanical engineering) products.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

In the practice-integrated Bachelor's degree in Product Service Engineering, practical phases in the company (eleven weeks) alternate with theoretical phases at the university (twelve weeks).

The students prepare themselves for the theoretical phases during the practical phases using didactically prepared self-study materials. The compulsory modules offer a broad education in engineering (approx. 30%), computer science (approx. 30%), service science (approx. 20%) and business administration (approx. 20%). In three practical modules and as part of the bachelor thesis, students carry out practical projects. In this context, company-specific topics and contents can be deepened in order to prepare the students for the special tasks in operational practice. In the fifth and sixth semesters, students have the opportunity to use an elective catalog to individualize their competence profile for technical or service-oriented subject areas.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Abitur or advanced technical college entrance qualification or previous training recognized as equivalent and proof of practical engineering work during the course. An apprenticeship or internship or an employment relationship is required for the practice-integrated course. Evidence of a cooperation agreement with the company must be provided

CAREER PROSPECTS

Due to the universal orientation of the course, various fields of activity can be taken on. For example, the development of mobile applications (apps) for diagnosis and customer communication, of AR or VR applications (augmented reality or virtual reality applications) to complex scenarios with AR or VR glasses (augmented reality or virtual reality) are conceivable. Reality glasses) or applications for remote maintenance and repair of machines and systems. Areas of application can be found wherever services are made more efficient through digitization. Common job descriptions can be found under the keywords "Smart Service", "Predictive Maintenance" and "Digital Service" in the professional roles of "Engineer" or "Project Manager".
