Overview

The bachelor's degree in Pedagogy of Childhood (PdK) focuses on the requirements for upbringing and educational work with children from 0-14 years of age. He qualifies to accompany educational processes pedagogically and to advise, further educate and network the caregivers of children.

The course of study is based on a pedagogical understanding of the child as a competent subject who actively explores and helps shape its cultural and natural environment. Fundamental scientific knowledge and methods are imparted and qualified in close interaction with practice for the independent conception, implementation and evaluation of upbringing and educational processes in childhood. In doing so, he takes into account the challenges of a pluralized, constantly changing society.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

  • You put together your individual course of studies from the courses offered according to your interests in the given modules.
  • In the first four semesters you will take part in the basics. These provide the basis for recognizing, analyzing and understanding pedagogical relationships.
  • The last two semesters of the profiles enable you to specialize in broad professional fields depending on your own interests.
  • Through practical phases, which are prepared and accompanied in seminars and the three-semester practical project, the course is closely interlinked with professional practice.
  • With your bachelor thesis you deal theoretically and empirically with the problem area of ??the selected topic.
  • In order to obtain state recognition, a year of practical experience as a childhood educator follows after graduation.

  • Development and promotion of development in childhood
  • Cultural education: play and design - nature and media
  • Childhood in heterogeneous living environments

Practical phase 1 (after the 1st semester):
P 1 internship: 30 working days over two semesters

Practical phase 2 (3rd - 5th semester):
P2 practical project : 60 working days over three semesters

Degree (6th semester)
K. Bachelor thesis and colloquium

In order to gain state recognition, there is a year of practical work after graduation.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For all those who start their studies at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in the winter semester 2021/22, there is no need to provide evidence of practical work before starting their studies (basic internship). You do not have to provide evidence of the internship either when you enroll or at a later date.

For educators, there is the possibility, on application, of having their achievements in the training recognized for module P1.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Childhood educators can work in the following professional areas:

  • Upbringing and education of children (e.g. KiTas, family centers and schools (OGS), in early intervention facilities, children's villages, homes or in open child labor
  • Education, advice and support in educational contexts (e.g. specialist advice for day-care centers, advice, further training and further education for educators, teachers, day care parents, families)
  • Children's rights and child protection (e.g. national and international child rights and child protection organizations, including for children with experience of violence and in work with street children)
