Overview

The specialist knowledge from a bachelor's degree in the field of printing and media technology will be further expanded in the first three semesters and partially transferred to new fields of application. Project management and publishing systems play a major role, as do marketing and customer relationship management. The focus is on applications that are relevant for advertising agencies and publishers.

In tutoring projects, content is developed in a team and passed on in a structured manner in workshops for Bachelor students. This promotes both specialist skills and interdisciplinary qualifications. The projects serve both as a model for later in-company training and for the personal development of future managers in personnel management and project work.

In the area of ??corporate management, students learn the factors of successful future-oriented and sustainable corporate development. A special focus is formed by research modules to be completed in each semester, which practice the methodology and implementation of heuristic scientific procedures on different topics. A larger research project on current content in the field of print or media concludes these modules.

The modules in the third semester in particular can be replaced by studying abroad. A far-reaching regulation supports the full consideration of diverse teaching contents.

PRACTICAL RELEVANCE

The range of courses is geared towards being particularly practical. Company projects, excursions and the use of company experts as lecturers ensure a close connection to the application and current problems in practice.

Courses on current research and development topics in the fields of print and media ensure that theory and practice are closely interlinked.

In the five-month master's thesis, the current state of science and research on the respective topic is usually combined with a practical application.

RESEARCH

Research is an integral part of the master's degree in printing and media technology.

In a first module, the details of an activity in the research environment are presented from the ground up and successively in small steps. In doing so, the reference to practice is always established.

The students learn the basics of modeling and then, under the guidance of the lecturer, practice developing their own model examples in group work.

In a further, supplementary module, students can choose to deepen their knowledge in the field of printing or media.

The master's thesis is usually carried out in cooperation with companies or in the university's own laboratories.

The five-month theses are usually subordinate to a research topic.

A special focus is the so-called new media, which are examined in terms of technology, design and economic aspects. Marketing and online media must be analyzed and developed taking into account the specific success factors. There are, for example, the following focal points:

  • ???? Strategic and operational self-marketing ????
  • Digital publishing, eBooks
  • ???? Interactive Design ????
  • Media didactics

Other special focuses with regard to the thesis are: ????

  • Developments in modern print technologies
  • ???? 3D printing technologies ????
  • Printed electronics
  • sustainability

CAREER PROSPECTS

The media industry is growing together, previously separate product fields complement each other in a joint portfolio. The Beuth University has been supporting this trend for years with its range of courses in printing and media technology.

The master’s degree meets the growing demand for a combination of leadership skills and extensive specialist knowledge. In addition to updating and expanding specialist knowledge, the aim is, above all, to strengthen management knowledge and skills. For this reason, business knowledge related to printing and media technology is in the foreground in the master’s course.

The so-called "soft skills" such as independence and teamwork play a special role, which are particularly encouraged by the activating teaching methods. In addition, in-depth knowledge in the areas of print and non-print media is imparted.

Potential occupational fields

Potential occupational fields are, above all, management positions in the printing industry or in media companies such as advertising agencies and publishers, internet service providers or media productions.

In the printing industry, which is mainly organized in small and medium-sized companies, such as in printing works, with printing machine manufacturers, in the supplier industry and in research and development facilities, a master’s graduate belongs to the potential management team of the company.

In larger companies, master’s graduates can quickly specialize in a particular application due to the wide-ranging course.

The master’s degree opens up the possibility of a doctorate and entry into higher service.
