Overview

Our way of life - with increasing economic thinking in many areas of society - has a considerable negative impact on the environment and the reduction of its natural resources, as well as a multitude of social problems.

In response to this development, the UN World Commission on Environment and Development coined the term sustainability. Sustainable action requires meeting the needs of today's generations without endangering the livelihoods of future generations.

The environment cannot be viewed in isolation from economic and social development. The contents of the interdisciplinary course in industrial engineering and sustainability, a cooperation between the University of Economics and Law (HWR) and the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin, take this holistic approach into account.

The business studies at the HWR and the technical and natural science studies at the Beuth University impart the basics that enable a future engineer to interlink economic and ecological action with technical requirements in order to meet future challenges to be able to respond responsibly and sustainably.

In addition, skills for scientific work as well as key qualifications such as foreign languages, teamwork and personality development are taught.

Following the basic business administration and technical-scientific studies, the learning areas of environmental and process engineering with a focus on regenerative energy technology and integrated environmental technology as well as the learning areas of management (environmental and quality management) and the instruments of sustainability form a deepening.

The course to become an industrial engineer for environment and sustainability is very popular in the economy, as technical solutions only produce optimal results in combination with business knowledge.

Employment opportunities can be found where technology, economy and ecology have to be related.
