The bachelor's degree in biophysics is intended to provide students with the necessary specialist knowledge, skills and methods, taking into account the requirements of the world of work, in such a way that they are able to carry out scientific work, to form scientifically sound judgments, to critically reflect on scientific findings and to act responsibly. This applies on the one hand to the qualification to study master’s courses and on the other hand to the qualification for activities in the corresponding professional fields.
Successful modern biology not only requires the recognition and representation of complex relationships and networks, but also the application of physical laws to elucidate processes on a molecular, cellular and organismic level. This requires an interdisciplinary training that includes the handling of highly sensitive experimental methods for the acquisition of quantitative data and their use for the creation of meaningful theoretical models. Accordingly, the biophysics course is aimed at high school graduates with a broad interest in natural sciences. During their studies, students first receive a wide range of basic training in a wide variety of scientific disciplines (mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, computer science), whereby the respective courses are attended at the corresponding specialist institutes. Building on this solid basic knowledge, special biophysical events are offered in the advanced studies, which are based on current international biophysical research and are offered in cooperation with research institutions from Berlin and Brandenburg. Particular attention is paid to a close connection between experimental and theoretical biophysics, e.g. the development of experimentally verifiable molecular and systems biological models.
