The consecutive master’s degree in business administration at Heinrich
Heine University is usually based on a previous successful bachelor’s degree in business administration and is aimed at academically interested students.

In order to be able to enroll in the master’s degree in business administration, special aptitude must be proven (see below). The application deadline for the online procedure to determine suitability for the winter semester is from 1.6. until July 15

The special suitability is checked by a selection committee of the business and economics faculty on the basis of the included documents. This only includes the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in an economics degree with at least 180 ECTS after completing the degree
  • Final grade (at least 2.3)
  • Final thesis (at least 6 ECTS)
  • Knowledge of business administration (at least 60 ECTS)
  • Knowledge of economics (at least 20 ECTS)
  • Knowledge of statistical methodology (at least 10 ECTS - without mathematics)

If the course has not yet been completed, at least 75% of the ECTS of the entire Bachelor course must have been achieved. The required specialist knowledge must be proven when applying. It is not possible to make up for missing ECTS as part of the master’s degree in business administration at Heinrich Heine University. We reserve the right to make further changes.


The research-oriented study program serves to deepen the skills acquired in the bachelor's degree. It imparts the ability to systematically and independently analyze economic issues on a scientific basis, to make management decisions and to organize and monitor their implementation responsibly.

Compact compulsory area and extensive options.
Follow your interests and set individual priorities: The course is designed so that you can specialize (e.g. finance, accounting, corporate management, human resource management) or train as a generalist.

During the master’s degree, compulsory elective modules can be taken in various areas.

Business administration
eg: Accounting and Control: Research and Practice, Bank Management and Financial Services, Business Taxation, Entrepreneurial Finance: Research and Practice, Case Study Competition "MBA-ICC Montréal", Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Personnel Management, Practical Seminar Company Valuation

e.g.: Advanced Econometrics, Competition Policy and Theory, Empirical Competition Economics, Industrial Economics, International Financial Markets, Monetary Economics, Network and Information Goods Economics, Regulatory Economics, Game Theory

e.g. digital science technology, business psychology, tax law, art and culture management

No compulsory internships.

Language of instruction is German, some events are in English.


The study program has a generalist orientation and, within the framework of the elective elements, also enables a job-oriented focus. In close contact with the lecturers, the students develop solutions to problems currently being discussed in research. For this purpose, compulsory modules convey the methodological and technical competence, including economic and statistical concepts. The master’s degree opens up excellent career opportunities.
