Your studies - freedom of choice guaranteed

Our degree program is characterized by three core elements: In addition to a broad-based part that brings you closer to the most important basics of the sub-areas of economics, the degree includes many options and project work so that you can flexibly adapt your studies to your interests. For example, it is possible to set different priorities during your studies. The offer includes both business management topics such as "finance" or "corporate management" as well as economic topics such as "competition economics" or "European economic policy".

Semester abroad and language courses
In order to take account of the increasingly international economy, some elective modules are also held in English. At the same time, our university offers a range of language courses - from beginner to professional level. And for everyone who would like to spend one or more semesters abroad, there are numerous exchange programs with partner universities all over the world.

Young team, great research In the
past there were only a few recognized experts in competitive research at German universities. That has now changed since the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) was founded. The HHU has succeeded in bringing a team of renowned young competition researchers to Düsseldorf. With the help of a private donation, we have set up six new professorships. With the Oeconomicum we have a great new building
with an ultra-modern infrastructure. In addition, we have set up an economic experimental laboratory in which we use exciting experiments to investigate whether people actually behave in everyday situations in economic life as economic theory predicts.

Make contacts during your studies
We work regularly with your potential future employers: with associations, authorities, research institutes, newspapers, multinational corporations, but also with regional start-ups. In our special field, competition research, practically all important institutions are no more than two hours away from Düsseldorf: The Competition General Directorate of the European Commission in Brussels, which, like the Federal Cartel Office and the Federal Network Agency in Bonn, monitors competition and punishes violations; also the Monopolies Commission - the most important advisory body of the federal government on competition issues. In addition, many multinational corporations from the energy, telecommunications and financial sectors are based on the Rhine and Ruhr. In addition, there are trading groups and consulting companies as well as the ministries and public institutions of the state capital. Studying in Düsseldorf opens up great opportunities for later career entry and offers valuable contacts at home and abroad during your studies.

Heinrich Heine University offers the bachelor's degree in Economics with a standard period of six semesters, within which you can choose between two main areas: competition and regulation and international financial markets. The “Bachelor of Science” degree provides you with the economic knowledge and key qualifications that are necessary for a successful transition into professional life or for admission to a master’s degree. In close exchange with the professors you will learn the basic economic models and methods, work independently on projects and discuss the big and small questions of economics with us. Our events are more than just lectures:
