Overview

The master’s degree in Public History provides knowledge for the media and public adequate presentation of historical content and problems, especially of modern history (with a focus on the history of the 20th century). This is based on technical questions, but takes more into account than before the aesthetic, political and commercial dimensions of dealing with history. For this demanding field of activity, the students acquire theoretical skills, for example with regard to the functional principles of historical culture and historical learning. On the other hand, the course aims to impart practical skills such as presentation techniques, organizational planning and project management.

The course trains future experts in "public" history. The focus is on theoretical and methodological reflections on perceptions of history, cultures of remembrance, competitions of interpretation as well as practical training in various media, museum and other public-related forms of presentation of history. Courses offered at the level of advanced and advanced seminars and research colloquia convey and deepen the latest state of the scientific debate. In accompanying project work, the students acquire the necessary practical knowledge. Through the active involvement of lecturers from the media, politics and companies, insights into the world of work and contact options for later career entry are provided.
