The foundation for further studies is laid in business, economic, legal and mathematical lectures. In addition to the basics of the respective areas, the finance and insurance industry is also specifically included.

Eight subjects in the course are standardized for all students. This is followed by a specialization (see below). Basically, the course is organized in modules. A module is the examination unit, which is mainly completed as a written exam at the beginning of the course. A module consists of one or more courses. The following topics are covered:

3. Accounting for insurance companies
4. Mathematics / statistics
5. Economics
6. Risk management
7. Capital markets
8. Management theory

The students then specialize in one or two “Risk and Business Areas” and “Business Competency Areas”. You can choose from a catalog of subjects:

5. Risk management and insurance in industry
6. Property insurance and related branches of insurance

4. Accounting and controlling
5. Mediation
6. Actuarial mathematics

Here, too, each subject consists of one or more modules. Types of examination for the modules are written exams, term papers, oral contributions, project work, drafts, learning portfolios or internship reports. Most of the courses in these elective modules are lectures, lectures and seminars. In addition, there may be group work and case studies. The third module of each elective is a seminar. In total, students must complete at least one seminar.

In addition to the compulsory and compulsory elective modules, the TH Köln offers optional offers that are recommended to all students, for example:
