In order to be able to actively help shape solutions in these future-oriented areas, you will not only be taught the necessary specialist knowledge, but also general qualifications such as moderation and project management. The Institutes for Automation & Industrial IT (AIT) and for Electrical Engineering (IEL) on the Gummersbach campus maintain very good contacts with employers in the region, but also nationwide and internationally, for example with all automotive groups. At an early stage in their studies, students gain insights into industrial processes and their boundary conditions. The modern equipment of the institutes, together with a favorable supervision ratio, form the solid basis for training at a professional level.

The term “Internet of Things” (IoT) dominates the public perception. This generic term contains many other current trends such as Industry 4.0, Smart Home, Assisted Living, self-driving cars, Smart Grid, etc. In order to be able to actively shape solutions in these future-oriented areas, you will not only have the necessary specialist knowledge, but also overarching qualifications such as moderation and project management.

Good contacts to employers in the region, but also far beyond, enable you to gain an early insight into industrial processes and boundary conditions. The equipment of the Institute for Automation & Industrial IT and the Institute for Electrical Engineering, together with a favorable supervision ratio, forms a solid basis for training at a professional level.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

Mathematics, introduction to mechanics and electrical engineering, physics, computer science, basics of business administration, programming, applied mathematics, control engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, technical English, system theory, measurement systems, project management, communication and leadership, soft computing, engineering ethics.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Electrical engineering plays a key role in all modern economies. Electrical engineers develop innovative technologies for the fastest growing industrial sectors. Nothing works today without electrical engineering, be it aircraft construction, automotive engineering, mechanical engineering or the chemical industry.

The areas of responsibility in detail:

  • Planning, development, operation and automation of industrial production plants
  • Development, production and sales of electric drives
  • Planning, development and commissioning of power engineering facilities, plants and systems

180 ECTS or
210 ECTS in the case of an integrated, optional practical semester
