Graduates of the master’s degree in computer science work in companies and research institutions on complex tasks in the field of computer science. In-depth analytical-methodical competencies oriented towards a scientific work methodology as well as broad and deeper technical competencies, especially in the areas of software engineering and machine learning, are acquired. Graduates are prepared for their future activities as technical experts and managers in the IT sector. In addition, attractive opportunities for an academic career are opened up.

In addition to technical qualifications, the master’s degree in computer science places great emphasis on imparting interdisciplinary skills, such as

  • Ability to work in a confident, analytical and scientifically sound critical manner,
  • Qualification for the safe application and further development of methods and technologies in research and development,
  • Qualification for successful, self-reliant, innovative activities in the field of IT,
  • Special ability to work on complex topics in the field of software engineering,
  • Qualification for management activities at team level and doctorate.

In the first two semesters, the master’s degree in computer science conveys advanced topics in computer science, their scientific point of view and methods, and general skills in a mix of compulsory and elective modules. The modules of the first and second semester can be studied independently of each other. In the third semester, the course concludes with the master's thesis and the colloquium.

Graduates of the master’s program in computer science are able to work on complex computer science-related problems in companies and research institutions in a competent and scientifically sound manner and to develop new solutions. You are not limited to specific industries.

You will find career prospects in a wide range of areas: in the private sector, in the IT departments and data centers of medium-sized and large companies, at software houses, IT service providers and consulting companies as well as in specialized engineering offices. In addition, the master’s degree in computer science offers its graduates attractive opportunities for a doctorate and an academic career.

  • A completed university degree (at least a bachelor's degree) in a scientific, engineering, mathematical or business management direction
  • good knowledge of applied computer science,
  • as well as sufficient English language skills.

The required bachelor's degree should have 210 credit points (usually 7 semesters), of which at least 100 credit points should be in the subjects relevant to computer science. In the case of bachelor's degree programs with only 180 credit points - or less than 100 credit points in the subjects relevant to IT - the missing credit points can be acquired by taking additional modules or through company internships.
