The aim is to obtain a professional qualification as a nurse in combination with a Bachelor of Science.

The primary qualifying bachelor's degree in nursing combines university learning at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences with practical learning in a wide range of fields of nursing.

In the course of study, you acquire competencies on a scientific basis for professional care, care and support for people of all ages and their caregivers in all fields of activity. You will deal with the general conditions of nursing care and learn to reflect and justify your actions in different care areas of the health system. The course also focuses on situation and person-oriented communication and advice for people of all ages and their caregivers.


The eight-semester course in nursing offers the opportunity to acquire two degrees within four years:

  • Professional qualification as a nurse
  • Bachelor of Science degree

Eight practical modules in different fields of activity of nursing are integrated into the course. Within these practical modules, you will be professionally guided and accompanied by practical instructors and university lecturers. In addition, a scientific project is being designed and implemented in cooperation with various practice facilities. In elective modules you can deepen your knowledge and, for example, acquire further training as a practical instructor.

The course is organized in the form of modules and takes place at the universities of applied sciences and health care facilities. In addition, there is the Skills Lab(Nursing laboratory) integrated into the course as a “third place of learning”. Students have the opportunity to plan, carry out and critically reflect on complex nursing activities in a protected setting.

The course content is conveyed in a competence-oriented manner with the help of various teaching / learning methods, e.g. in the form of lectures, seminar-like lessons, small group work and skills lab exercises.

The practical modules take place in health care facilities, for example in inpatient acute care, day-care inpatient care, rehabilitation, inpatient long-term care and outpatient, psychiatric or pediatric care. To this end, the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences cooperates with numerous high-performance institutions in the health sector.

Abitur, advanced technical college entrance qualification or a university entrance qualification recognized as equivalent.

An internship in the field of nursing is recommended.
