The master's degree in building technology and energy management deepens and expands the basic knowledge acquired in the bachelor's degree in building and energy technology.

In contrast to the bachelor's program, the master’s program does not focus on the design, but on the operation of buildings and systems. Instead of design calculations, simulation calculations are used with which operational processes can be represented and assessed. This requires in-depth knowledge of system behavior, which is imparted in the master’s course.

In addition, there is extensive knowledge of building automation and the use of EDP. This creates a well-rounded competence profile in building and energy management on a solid technical basis.


Studying at Beuth University has always been characterized by a particularly broad practical relevance. In the master’s degree in building technology and energy management, the knowledge acquired is consolidated in experimental exercises and tested for practical suitability on the basis of selected practical examples in Berlin buildings.

Leading building technology companies are closely linked to the course through affiliated foundations.

The Bälz Foundation has been involved at the Beuth University in Berlin since 1978. Their sponsoring company, W. Bälz & Sohn GmbH & Co., also enables the annual "control technology seminars" for students of building and supply engineering at all German universities of applied sciences.

The member companies of the support association supply technology e. V. promote excursion trips, software and hardware procurement as well as the further promotion of teaching and theses with their financial support.


Air and water are our most valuable assets and are subject to strict hygiene requirements. As part of research and development activities, the use of these natural resources is examined and optimized for the efficient and sustainable operation of systems and buildings. Air flow and water treatment methods and detection methods are being developed that can be used in an energy-efficient and resource-saving manner.

Other research topics concern, for example, the optimization of heating controls and the development of parts and system components for the increased use of environmental energies.

All research and development projects are application-oriented and relate to practice. The tests are carried out in the field and in the laboratory. Selected parts of the projects will be integrated into the exercises. The results are implemented in teaching and made accessible to everyone in teaching and learning paths.

  • The admission requirement for the course is a completed diploma or bachelor's degree.
  • The applicant then takes part in the NC procedure.


A building causes costs during its lifespan that usually exceed those for planning and construction many times over. The main reasons are the energy consumption as well as the maintenance of the technical systems and the building fabric. This results in high financial burdens for the building users, be it in apartments or in commercial buildings.

Due to the energy they consume for heating, lighting, air conditioning and other processes, buildings are among the greatest sources of CO 2 and are therefore significantly involved in the greenhouse effect. Therefore, the costs and the environmental pollution caused by buildings must be reduced through intelligent management. This does not only apply to residential buildings - the technical systems of an airport or an office complex must also be operated optimally.

This requires highly qualified specialists who are equipped with in-depth knowledge. You will be able to master difficult tasks related to the operation of buildings. Energy management is one of the central measures to reduce energy consumption.

Building on the bachelor's degree, master’s graduates qualify for management positions in the entire field of building and energy technology. They are in high demand in the industry. With their expanded skills profile, they improve their income opportunities and career prospects.
