Nowadays, technical systems with the integrative merging of the disciplines of electrical engineering, construction, manufacturing and information technology are becoming more and more important. The aim of the Master in Mechatronics course is to be able to apply system integration with current development methods and tools for mechatronic systems and related microsystems with the previous knowledge acquired.

The systematic approach can be learned in all development and production phases for mechatronic systems. B. can be found in the field of robotics. With the qualification for scientific work, possible professional fields of work arise, which can be in construction, development, production, quality management and especially research.

The systematic thinking promoted in the course is enhanced by the use of modern simulation techniques such as B. the Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) complements. In this way, more complex mechatronic systems can also be modeled, simulated and improved. In particular, the interdisciplinary project work carried out in the course, in which the students independently implement and present industry-related tasks in a team, contribute to understanding the system.


Mechatronics is a specialist field and an engineering discipline that is defined by the close interaction of mechanics, electronics and information technology. Many mechatronic systems also use other basic technologies, such as optics.

Mechatronic engineers develop new mechatronic components and systems. The conception of automated production facilities and related systems, for example inspection systems, is one of the typical mechatronic engineering tasks.

The special ability of the mechatronics engineers is the integration of the various specialist areas.


The technical progress and the economic success of companies in mechatronics are based on research and development.

In the Mechatronics master’s course, great value is placed on research-oriented project work in which the students learn and practice technical knowledge, methodological skills and, in particular, cooperation in a team.

Industrially relevant topics are dealt with, if possible also in cooperation with companies.

In principle, admission to the course is granted to those who have successfully completed a first academic degree with at least 210 credit points.

The course is designed in such a way that a course of study that can be carried out within the standard period of study requires knowledge such as that imparted in the bachelor’s course in Mechatronics at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin and in comparable courses at other universities.

For bachelor's degree programs with fewer than 210 credits, the dean specifies additional modules, the successful completion of which must be proven before the application for the final thesis is submitted.

Knowledge of English is required for this course of study, which allows students to follow the course offerings and, if necessary, to take exams in this language.


Our reality of life is extremely shaped by technical structures that rapidly expand our rangeof perception and scope for action.

Intelligent mobile phones provide almost unlimited information at any place and at any time and process it according to our personal profiles. Orders for goods or booking trips are made at the push of a button. Goods are automatically picked from large warehouses, forwarded via distribution centers and delivered immediately.

All of these processes require a precise interaction between information technology, electrical engineering and mechanics. This is the field of activity of mechatronics engineers:

The goods and the technical structures that enable these processes must be invented, designed, constructed, produced and marketed.

  • Novel materials and manufacturing technologies that make it possible to integrate functions in a smaller space must be tested, investigated and qualified for series or mass production.
  • Components that record physical quantities or inputs from people are designed and physically and technically implemented. Input variables are converted into optical or electrical signals and processed by powerful microcomputers.
  • The high-bay warehouses and conveyor systems in freight centers must be developed, equipped with high-performance sensors and, overall, provided with an intelligent, networked control system.
  • Even simple household appliances such as electric toothbrushes or washing machines have sensors, actuators and a central control system, which means that specialists who have mastered the integration of mechanics, electronics and computer technology are needed during development.

Studying mechatronics as part of the master’s course enables in particular independent engineering work in research and development.
