Overview

The engineering course in building and energy technology includes the building technology disciplines of heating technology, air conditioning technology, sanitary technology and electrical, measurement and control technology as well as energy and environmental technology.

The course consists of coordinated modules. In order to complete the standard period of study, six modules have to be completed per semester.

In the first semesters, the basics of mathematics, physics, chemistry and engineering (such as technical thermal and fluid dynamics, building construction and thermal insulation, computer-aided engineering and measurement technology) are taught.

As early as the 2nd semester, the basics of plant engineering are taught in the main subjects of heating technology, air conditioning technology, sanitary technology as well as energy and environmental technology. The course content is deepened in the context of practical exercises in the laboratories for heating technology, for air conditioning technology, for sanitary technology and for electrical, measurement and control technology, CAD and CAE in construction.

After a project and practical phase in the 5th semester, the 6th semester mainly teaches legal and commercial fundamentals and the knowledge acquired is verified by means of a bachelor thesis.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Supplying people in buildings with air, water and energy will continue to be one of the most important tasks in the future. Today the energy industry is still mainly based on fossil fuels. More than 30 percent of the energy imported from Germany is used for heating and hot water in buildings. Fossil fuels are running out, however, and CO 2 emissions must be reduced.

Technologies for using renewable energies reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and relieve nature and the environment. Regenerative energy technologies are on the upswing. Hundreds of thousands of new jobs have already been created. However, not only the use of renewable energy, but also increasing energy efficiency in existing and new buildings are imperative.

With a degree in building and energy technology, you are choosing a future-oriented course. Its graduates are in great demand on the job market.
