The seven-semester bachelor's degree in fire protection and security technology is divided into a basic phase and an advanced phase with two major subjects.

A special feature of this degree program is the offer of two individually selectable study areas, the choice of which must be made with the application for the study place. Specializations are possible in the following two areas:

  • Fire protection
  • Security technology

In addition to their bachelor's degree, students specializing in fire protection complete their fire brigade training at the Berlin Fire Brigade and Rescue Service Academy during the semester break.

The basic phase comprises the first three semesters and is primarily used for basic scientific and technical training with modules such as physics, chemistry, technical mechanics, electrical engineering, communication technology, hydraulics and pneumatics.

In addition, students get to know the basics of business administration and law and are introduced to the basics of disaster control and occupational safety.

As part of the specialization phase, from the fourth semester onwards, students take all specialization modules according to their chosen specialization. In the fourth, fifth and sixth semester, the focus-specific technical subjects form the focus. These include, for example, fire protection, process and plant engineering, as well as communication systems in hazard prevention, or process control technology for safety technology.

Various laboratories are available to the degree program for practical teaching and applied research and development, such as laboratories for basic physical or chemical training.

Due to technological and natural developments, security has long since become a permanent task and obligation of companies, authorities and organizations with a security focus (BOS). With its content on the subject of fire protection and security technology, the course trains experts in this interdisciplinary field with its growing requirements.

Depending on the choice of specialization, graduates of the bachelor's degree are prepared for a wide range of fields of activity such as practical experience in the upscale fire-fighting service or for engineering safety tasks in a wide variety of industries.

The growing importance of safety tasks requires knowledge carriers especially in the areas of functional safety, civil protection, fire protection, occupational safety and quality engineering. The training of experts in these areas is guaranteed in the course by university lecturers with experience in science and practice
