In the first semester you will acquire basic knowledge of media economics, methodological and theoretical content. In the compulsory module applied empirical research , you will gain knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research and put your own research projects into practice. You will get to know the basics of media economics and media law. The basic course offers you the opportunity to orientate yourself with regard to the choice of courses in further studies.

Semesters two and three enable you to deepen your basic knowledge. You have the choice in which areas you would like to specialize. You can choose from the topics of media management, media marketing and media economics. In line with the Bauhaus tradition, the faculty offers project studies: A combined format of lectures and seminars in small groups that enables you to study in-depth with a focus on content. You can choose from the range of our professorships and other Thuringian universities and design your own schedule. You will also be practically prepared for the professional world through international projects, excursions and cooperation with Central German companies. A so-called mobility window was also set up in the third semester. This should enable you to spend a semester at an international partner university without extending your studies.

The fourth semester consists of the master's module. You will be supervised and advised during your master’s thesis as part of a master’s colloquium and individual consultations.
The study and examination regulations regulate further information on the formalities of the studies .

The prerequisite for admission to the course is a first professional university degree with above-average examination results (overall grade at least 2.5) in

a) an economics degree or

b) a media science course.

Applicants who do not have a degree in a first degree in economics must prove that they have acquired at least 50 ECTS in economics with a certificate of achievement before commencing their studies. The selection committee takes into account all knowledge relevant to economics. The credit points acquired during the thesis from the first degree can also be taken into account if they are relevant to the topic.
